End of season news from Woodpecker Pool

We have now come to the end of our second season but there are still three weeks fishing to report on, and what a great three weeks they were.

29th September we welcomed back Steve Dean, this time he brought along his mum Barbara, twin brother Andrew and his girlfriend Stephanie and their friend Kishor spent a couple of days with them also.

Only Steve and Andrew fishing and not 24/7, taking time out to go for a few meals etc. They had a mixed week weather wise but they had an excellent week fishing, not so much quantity but quality fish, their catch included carp 7 x 20s including the elusive Ghost common, 7 x 30s all different fish, and 2 catfish, a new PB of 59lb 12oz to Steve and a first ever of 57lb 12oz to Andy. A total weight of 693lbs for an average of 31lb 8oz.

When they arrived and I met Andy I asked him what his personal best carp was and he told me 11lbs, well Andy you certainly blew that away a few times during the week but none better than the NEW LAKE RECORD mirror of 38lb 12oz, he also had a great fish in our opinion catching a lovely illusive 11lb original common and to top it off his first ever catfish at 57lb 12oz.

They also had all three sturgeons and they managed to persuade Stephanie to do some float fishing and she caught some fine roach.

Thank you all for your custom and company and also for the drink you left for us behind the bar at the Combiers, it was really appreciated. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

For our last two weeks of the season we welcomed back the Whiley family, Tracey, Chris and their two sons Christopher and Nathan they had a great fortnight last year so how would it work out for them this time, they are good anglers so hopes were high.

The weather was mainly fine and sunny but with a good few days with an east or north east wind blowing which really took the edge of the temperatures. Again not fishing 24/7 and Christopher and Nathan only fishing odd days. Lots of personal bests again during the two weeks.

Their catch included carp 24 x 20s, 13 x 30s to 38lb 3oz again all different mirrors, 1 x 35lb 15oz common and NEW LAKE RECORD to Chris. There were 3 x 50lb plus catfish and 1 x 60lb exactly catfish just one ounce short of the lake record and of course all three sturgeon a few times. Christopher caught a beautiful illusive original mirror of 7lb 14oz.

The number of fish was 70 for a total weight for the fortnight a staggering 2056lb 2oz with an average of 29lb 6oz.

Thank you for your custom and company again this year and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2008.

Well that is the end of our second and very successful season and a very big thank you to you our customers, you make it all worth while and we hope you all have enjoyed your holidays with us as much as we have enjoyed having you here. We have seen some stunning fish caught this season and we hope we have helped make some of your dreams come true. Thank you all again very much for the way the chalet and grounds have been left this year. We look forward now to next season when we can welcome you back once again.

All the very best till next time.

Sue & Doug.
